Would you pay $9,433 to see Disney’s ‘Frozen’ on Broadway?

Tickets for Disney’s DIS, -0.36% upcoming Broadway musical “Frozen” went on sale yesterday and already, the resale market is overheated.

Demand for the stage version of the highest-grossing animated movie in history was always going to be high. But the show, which starts performances at Broadway’s St. James Theatre in February 2018 after making its world premiere at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts this week, almost completely sold out for its first five months within hours of tickets going on sale on Ticketmaster, which is owned by LiveNation LYV, +0.08%

Such is the high volume of demand to see “Frozen” between February and July 2018 that under Ticketmaster’s verified resale program — which permits tickets to be resold by third-party sellers — balcony seats at the back of the 1,710-seat auditorium are going for almost $10,000 each on select dates close to the show’s mid-March opening.
