16-member White House arts committee is the latest group to quit Trump

The 16 members of the president’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities has become the latest group to abandon the president in protest at his response to the violence in Charlottesville, Va., last weekend, saying the “false equivalencies’ he is pushing cannot stand.

In a letter to the president, the group tendered its resignation with immediate effect, writing that reproach and censure were needed after Trump’s support of the hate groups and terrorist who killed and injured fellow Americans during a white-supremacist rally in Virginia.

“The Administration’s refusal to quickly and unequivocally condemn the cancer of hatred only further emboldens those who wish America ill,” the letter said.
