Market Extra: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash slip; ethereum’s currency climbs 8%

Digital currencies bitcoin and its offspring, Bitcoin Cash, were retreating Monday, coming off recent records.

A single bitcoin BTCUSD, -6.56% was trading at $4,059.29 late in the session, trading only slightly lower on the day, but down nearly 10% since climbing above an intraday record at $4,500 last week, according to Coindesk.com.

Bitcoin Cash, meanwhile, was down 14% on Monday, but retreating from a surge over the weekend in which the digital currency, a nascent alternative to bitcoin, had climbed above $900 at its peak. A Bitcoin Cash token was fetching $648.15 late Monday in New York, making it the third-most valuable virtual currency at $10.7 billion, behind bitcoin and currencies running on the ethereum blockchain, according to Coinmarketcap.com.
