The Wall Street Journal: Uber board still pursuing Meg Whitman as CEO candidate, despite her rebuff

Uber Technologies Inc. board members are again considering Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. HPE, +2.08% Chief Executive Meg Whitman as a possible candidate for the ride-hailing giant’s CEO job despite her public statement last month pulling out of contention, people familiar with the matter said.

Some directors have discussed in recent days potentially putting Whitman’s name back on Uber’s the shortlist of CEO candidates, which also includes General Electric Co. GE, +0.45% Chairman Jeff Immelt. The thinking goes that if a majority of Uber’s eight-person board were to vote to approve her as CEO, she could be convinced to come to the table again, the people said.
