Uber will have to pay up to get Dara Khosrowshahi as CEO

Uber Technologies Inc.’s pick for the chief executive role is not going to come cheap.

The embattled San Francisco-based ride-hailing company has offered its open CEO seat to Expedia Inc.’s top boss, Dara Khosrowshahi, and if he accepts it, he could cost Uber around $200 million. That’s because Khosrowshahi is currently sitting on about $184 million in unvested EXPE, -4.51% stock options as of Monday’s close, according to FactSet, potential earnings he would give up if he left the online-travel company.

Khosrowshahi receives a $1 million annual salary and significant cash bonuses from Expedia. In 2016, he banked a $1.37 million cash bonus, and the prior year he took home a $2.7 million bonus.
