The Wall Street Journal: Sloane Stephens wins all-American women’s final at U.S. Open

With precision, hustle and few mistakes, American Sloane Stephens won her first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open on Saturday.

Stephens, 24 years old, beat fellow American Madison Keys, 22, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Both women, who are close friends, were playing their first Grand Slam final. This was the first all-American women’s final at the Open since Venus and Serena Williams played each other in 2002.

The match ended, fittingly, when Keys missed a routine ball in a rally. Stephens finished with just six errors in the match and hit 10 winners. Keys, whose shots weren’t clicking, hit 30 unforced errors.
