Trump administration appears to walk back stance on Paris climate deal

The Trump administration may be shifting its stance on the Paris Agreement, according to statements from a top European Union official that have emerged during a summit in Canada.

Miguel Arias Canete, the European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, reportedly said from the summit, “The U.S. has stated that they will not renegotiate the Paris accord, but they will try to review the terms on which they could be engaged under this agreement.”

A Wall Street Journal report published Saturday claimed that White House senior adviser Everett Eissenstat unveiled the U.S. plan to re-engage with the climate deal at Saturday’s meetings.
