‘It’ adds to its September box-office record

“It” continued to kill it at the box office, taking in an estimated $60 million in its second weekend and adding to its September record.

Last week, the Stephen King horror movie from New Line Pictures and Time Warner Inc.’s TWX, +0.85% Warner Bros. had the best September debut ever, with a $123 million weekend, and the $60 million second-weekend gross also would have beaten any previous September film’s debut.

“It” is already the highest-grossing September release ever, with a combined $218.7 million so far, and this weekend passed “Get Out” ($175.5 million) as the second-highest grossing R-rated horror movie ever, trailing only 1973’s “The Exorcist.
