The Fed: What to expect from the Fed’s new dot plot

Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s leadership team is breaking up. This week’s meeting will be the last for Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer (red jacket). Soon only New York Fed President William Dudley (blue jacket) might be left.

Along with a decision to start reducing the amount of bonds it holds, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday will be releasing the so-called dot plot, the interest-rate forecasts of its members, and it will be keenly awaited by the market.

“It is a direct look at whether they want [a December rate hike],” said Kevin Cummings, senior U.S. economist at NatWest.

“It is a good guide of their base case for the rest of the year,” he said.
