The Wall Street Journal: Powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake strikes Mexico City, killing more than 100

MEXICO CITY — Mexico was rocked by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake Tuesday that collapsed scores of buildings in Mexico City, killing at least 119 people across the central part of the country on the anniversary of a devastating 1985 earthquake.

The state of Morelos, which sits on the border of the quake’s reported epicenter, said at least 54 people had been killed. Mexico City’s government reported another 30 killed, while Puebla state tallied another 26 dead. Other states also reported casualties. “We have emergency services across the city, and many people are being rescued,” Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera told local television.
