In One Chart: Here’s how stock performance in Trump’s first year compares to other presidents

When President Donald Trump celebrates the first anniversary of his inauguration on Saturday, U.S. stock-market investors will have plenty to cheer along with him.

Market performance during Trump’s first year in office has been a nonstop move higher. Major indexes hit a record number of records over 2017, a trend that has remained intact in the new year, and there has been basically nothing in the way of pullbacks or volatility. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.44% has gone a historic length of time without declining even 5%, a pullback that is historically very common.
