Earnings Results: AMD earnings show crypto and PC strength, stock bounces around

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. shares were volatile in the extended session Tuesday after the chip maker released quarterly results and outlook that topped Wall Street views and executives addressed security issues of the so-called Spectre and Meltdown exploits.

The company reported fourth-quarter net income of $61 million, or 6 cents a share, compared with a loss of $51 million, or 6 cents a share, in the year-ago period. The performance gave AMD its first full year of profitability by GAAP standards since 2011. Adjusted earnings were 8 cents a share. Of 21 analysts surveyed by FactSet, Wall Street, on average, expected adjusted earnings of 5 cents a share.
