BookWatch: Overeaters and overspenders have this one thing in common

For anyone involved in finance and investment, putting money aside from your salary each month and investing it is a no-brainer.

Yet even though I am an economist for whom saving comes naturally, my ability to avoid impulse purchases — thereby delaying gratification for a future time — hasn’t always extended to other areas of my life. I thought and acted like a rational economist while shopping, yet was utterly incapable of applying the same logic to eating.

Ultimately, though, I came to realize that if I was capable of controlling my spending habits, then I should be equally capable of controlling my eating habits.
