Earnings Outlook: Twitter earnings: Is Facebook’s pain Twitter’s gain?

Twitter Inc. has been frustrating investors ever since its public debut in 2013, but some are betting that the company is finally on the verge of turning things around.

Of course, that’s partly because Twitter’s TWTR, +12.15% big rival is changing things up. Facebook Inc. FB, -4.77% recently announced that it was tweaking the make-up of its news feed, showing users fewer viral videos and, eventually, fewer pieces from publishers. That could make Twitter appear more appealing to marketers.

“A tailwind for Twitter in the near-term in our opinion is the Facebook news feed overhaul, which is forcing publishers and online advertisers to ‘dip their toe in the water’ on the Twitter platform and start to ramp up ad investments on this platform,” wrote GBH Insights analyst Daniel Ives, who has a neutral rating on Twitter shares.
