The U.S. stock market has benefitted from a number of tailwinds over the past year, including improving corporate profits and global growth rates, but a weak U.S. dollar has been an underappreciated factor.

The buck DXY, -0.04% had shed more than 10% over the past 12 months and is down more than 2% thus far in 2018. The weakness has been credited to the monetary policies of the Federal Reserve and other central banks, as well as U.S. trade policy and the Trump administration’s stance on the currency. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin recently said a weaker dollar benefited U.S.
