After three weeks of inflation scares and stormy stock markets, Wall Street can catch its breath.

A light economic calendar in a holiday-shortened week means investors will have little to chew on. Instead they’ll have to marinate in a slew of reports that appear to show a strong U.S. economy finally pushing inflation higher after years of steady growth.

The upturn in inflation is already nudging U.S. interest rates higher even before the Federal Reserve’s next meeting five weeks from now.
