Advance Auto Parts gets a little help from the cold weather

Advance Auto Parts Inc. shares jumped more than 10% Wednesday, after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings and said cold weather will continue to drive above-average demand for car batteries, wipers, and other parts.

Advance Auto Parts AAP, +8.21% shares traded as high as $119.30, on track for their highest close since Feb. 1 and the stock’s largest increase since November 2017. The Wednesday gains also snapped a three-day losing streak for the shares.

The after-earnings jump follows an even higher post quarterly-results glow when the company reported third-quarter earnings in November.

Shares of Advance Auto Parts have lost 28% in the past 12 months, contrasting with gains of around 16% for the S&P 500 index.
