MarketWatch First Take: HP Enterprise earnings jolt stock, but there isn’t much to be excited about

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. earnings sent the stock higher in premarket trade Friday, but anyone hoping for the beginning of big changes under a new chief executive will likely be disappointed.

HP Enterprise HPE, +0.98%reported a strong fiscal first quarter Thursday, with revenue up 11% to $7.7 billion, growth in all its businesses and a better-than-expected outlook. HPE shares surged about 12% in premarket trading, which would be a welcome boost for a stock that had gained 14% in the past year while the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.66% has gained 21%.

Looking deeper into the results makes them less impressive, however.
