Trump threatens tax on cars if EU retaliates to proposed U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs

President Donald Trump defended his proposed tax on steel and aluminum imports Saturday.

President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that he would consider a tax on imported cars if European leaders increased tariffs on U.S. goods.

“If the E.U. wants to further increase their already massive tariffs and barriers on U.S. companies doing business there, we will simply apply a Tax on their Cars which freely pour into the U.S.,” Trump tweeted, signaling he would not shy away from a trade war with Europe, traditionally a staunch U.S. ally. “They make it impossible for our cars (and more) to sell there. Big trade imbalance!”
