Key Words: Kobe Bryant draws huge applause backstage, but not everybody’s cheering

Kobe Bryant never looked this nervous on the hoops court, which makes sense considering just how much he said winning an Oscar means to him:

‘I feel better than winning a championship . . . I swear I do. This is crazy, man.’

Bryant’s “Dear Basketball,” based on a poem that the retired NBA great wrote back in 2015, won for Best Animated Short on Sunday night. Just five minutes long, the film was narrated by Bryant with music by 86-year-old composer John Williams, who was also nominated for an Oscar for his work on “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
