Target has set itself up for a year much like Walmart’s performance in 2017 with a few significant tweaks, analysts say

Target Corp. is expected to report fourth-quarter 2017 earnings on Tuesday before the morning bell, but Susquehanna Financial Group is already looking to 2018 results, anticipating a year that will look much like Walmart Inc.’s in 2017.

Analysts think Target’s year will differ from Walmart’s WMT, +1.36% in a couple of significant ways: it will have better same-store sales and margin opportunities on a cheaper stock.

Susquehanna analysts led by Bill Dreher recommend Target TGT, -0.01% shares as the group’s Top Pick in the discount store sector.
