Oscars 2018: ‘The Shape of Water,’ ‘Dunkirk’ lead winners (see the list)

Fantasy-drama “The Shape of Water” splashed its way to victory at the 2018 Oscars, winning four Academy Awards including Best Picture. The movie’s Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, won Best Director.

“The Shape of Water” lost to writer-director Jordan Peele’s horror satire “Get Out” in the Best Original Screenplay category. Another highly-fancied contender, “Three Bilboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” picked up a Best Actress Oscar for Frances McDormand and a Best Supporting Actor win for Sam Rockwell.

Giving a passionate speech which encapsulated the emphasis on redressing gender inequality in Hollywood, McDormand — winning her second Oscar — asked all the female Oscar nominees in the audience at the Kodak Theatre to stand up in solidarity.
