The Ratings Game: Chip makers lead tech stocks lower even as Nvidia sees larger available data-center market

Shares of chip makers led the decline in tech stocks Wednesday even after Nvidia Corp. significantly raised its forecast of the potential data-center market going forward, and analysts suggested that Nvidia could be to the data center what Apple was for the cellphone.

Nvidia NVDA, -1.85% shares fell for a second day, closing down 1.9% at $221.35, as the company hosted the final day of its GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, Calif. Shares dropped 7.8% Tuesday after the company halted real-world testing of self-driving cars after an Uber Technologies Inc. test car killed a pedestrian in a collision last week.
