Economic Report: Chicago PMI falls to lowest level in a year in March

The numbers: Chicago PMI fell in March to a reading of 57.4, a one-year low, from 61.9 in February.

What happened: Any reading over 50 indicates improving conditions so the data aren’t a disaster. Employment expanded in March but orders and production have slowed.

The big picture: U.S. manufacturing had a great year in 2017 but the jury is still out about 2018.
