In One Chart: Why stock-market investors should welcome the arrival of April

The U.S. stock market is coming off a rough March—the worst month for the Nasdaq in more than two years—but at least seasonal trends are in investors’ favor with the coming of spring.

According to the Stock Trader’s Almanac, April has historically been a strong months for stocks, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.07% gaining an average of 1.9%, based on data that goes back to 1950. That stands as the single best month of the year for the Dow, based on average monthly performance.

It is also a top month for the other major indexes, per the Almanac.
