J.K. Rowling tells MarketWatch she’s bewitched by ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ on Broadway

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which opened on Broadway Sunday night, is the eighth installment in J.K Rowling’s fantasy phenomenon, but the first to be set on stage.

The two-part drama was selling out at the Lyric Theater in Manhattan’s Times Square, taking in over $2 million a week at the box office, even before the rave reviews from critics, but following the ecstatic reception Sunday night, the show should comfortably recoup the estimated $68.5 million that it cost to bring it to Broadway (including an estimated $33 million to renovate the theater).

Thank you to everyone who joined us today both at the Lyric Theatre and at home for the Official Broadway Opening of #CursedChildNYC! Our journey has only just begun… pic.twitter.com/3cyOBx4rEn
