Market Snapshot: Stock market slides as Wall Street awaits Trump’s imminent Iran decision

U.S. stocks came off their lows on Tuesday to end a choppy session little changed, after President Donald Trump, as expected, announced the U.S. would pull out of a multilateral nuclear deal with Iran.

What are the main benchmarks doing?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.01% finished 2.89 points higher at 24,360.21, a gain of less than 0.1%. The blue-chip gauge had been down by as many as 160 points during the session. Declines in shares of Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, -1.49%and Nike Inc. NKE, -1.27%had pressured the benchmark.

The S&P 500 index SPX, -0.03% lost 0.71 point to end at 2,671.92, also a decline of less than 0.1%, with seven of its 11 main sectors finishing with losses.
