U.S. government employee in China hit by possible sonic attack: reports

A U.S. government employee in China has endured a possible sonic attack, according to published reports Wednesday.

The U.S. State Department has issued a health alert to Americans in China, saying the employee recently reported “sensations of sound and pressure” that were “subtle and vague, but abnormal.”

U.S. citizens in China who “experience any unusual acute auditory or sensory phenomena” should not attempt to locate their source, but instead “move to a location where the sounds are not present,” the alert said.

The affected employee, assigned to the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, has been diagnosed with a mild traumatic brain injury, according to a Washington Post report.
