The Wall Street Journal: Jeff Flake says he hasn’t ruled out running against Trump in 2020

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, said he hoped a Republican would run for president against Trump in 2020 and that he hadn’t ruled out a primary challenge of his own.

“It’s not in my plans, but I have not ruled anything out,” Flake said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

He said he hoped Trump would face a challenge from a member of the GOP “if nothing else, simply to remind Republicans what conservatism is, and what Republicans have traditionally stood for.”

Last year, Flake announced he would retire from the Senate when his current term ends next January after his path to reelection this fall became uncertain.
