The Wall Street Journal: U.S. pulling out of U.N. Human Rights Council

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration said Tuesday it is withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council, delivering on a long-running threat to leave the organization unless it made major changes.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced the U.S. withdrawal in an appearance at the State Department, with Pompeo saying: “The Council has failed in its stated objectives.”

“The United States is officially withdrawing from the Human Rights Council,” Haley said, calling it a “hypocritical and self-serving” organization.

Haley has spoken out frequently against the U.N. Human Rights Council and denounced what she called its “pathological bias” against Israel, a major U.S.
