The Wall Street Journal: Francesco Molinari becomes first Italian to win British Open

Francesco Molinari won the British Open on Sunday, closing with a bogey-free round of 69 to finish at 8 under par.

It is Molinari’s first career major victory and he became the first Italian to take the Claret Jug. After a double-bogey on the 17th hole on Friday, Molinari didn’t drop another shot on his last 37 holes of the tournament.

Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy made late charges but fell short, both finishing two shots behind at 6 under, along with Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner.
