CryptoWatch: Bitcoin pares loss a day after SEC rejects Winklevoss ETF

Bitcoin traded lower early Friday in New York a day after the Securities and Exchange Commission voted 3 to 1 against the proposal for a bitcoin exchange-traded fund.

The news came as investors have been riding a wave of optimism with bitcoin rising almost 40% this month alone. However, the decision did offer a ray of hope with Commissioner Hester M. Peirce dissenting, arguing that the decision sends a signal that “innovation is unwelcome in our markets.”

However, after trading to an intraday low of $7,798.70, bitcoin BTCUSD, +0.22% has regained $8,000, last trading at $8,105.23, down 0.4% since Thursday 5 p.m.
