Market Snapshot: Stocks little changed as investors focus on trade and Italy

U.S. stocks traded on either side of break even on Tuesday, as investors weighed a strong domestic economy against persistent concerns over a variety of potentially market-disrupting events abroad.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.31% rose 19 points to 26,670. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.01% was down 3 points to 2,922, a decline of less than 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.04% fell 10 points to 8,027, a decline of 0.1%.

Three sectors saw outsize losses on Tuesday, with communications, technology, and consumer-discretionary groups all down about 0.3%.
