The Wall Street Journal: Ex-Senate staffer pleads guilty to lying to FBI during leak probe

WASHINGTON — The former security director of the Senate Intelligence Committee pleaded guilty Monday to making a false statement to the FBI as part of an investigation into media leaks.

James Wolfe, who for nearly three decades served in a nonpartisan role at the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, appeared in U.S. District Court on Monday and acknowledged making a false statement to FBI agents who questioned him in December 2017. Two other false statement charges will be dropped as part of a plea agreement.

While Wolfe pleaded guilty to misleading the agents, he wasn’t charged with actually leaking classified information, a point underlined by his lawyers.
