Market Extra: Investors want to hear Mario Draghi’s answer to this question about Italy and the ECB

Italy’s budget battle with the European Union means it won’t be business-as-usual for European Central Bank President Mario Draghi when he holds a news conference Thursday following a meeting of monetary policy makers.

Draghi, a former Bank of Italy governor who has lectured the country’s populist government on the need to abide by the EU’s fiscal rules, is almost certain to face questions about whether and how the central bank could use purchases to support Italian government bond prices and help keep worries about the capital adequacy of the country’s banks at bay, analysts said.

But Draghi might not have much to offer.
