The Wall Street Journal: Investigation into Interior Secretary Zinke referred to Justice Department

WASHINGTON — The Interior Department’s internal watchdog has referred an investigation into Secretary Ryan Zinke to the Justice Department, a person briefed on the matter said Tuesday, possibly prompting a criminal inquiry.

Zinke is the subject of at least three investigations by the department’s inspector general’s office. Those are looking into his decision to block two Native American tribes from operating a casino in Connecticut, his involvement in a development deal with the chairman of oilfield services Halliburton Co. HAL, +1.86% in Montana, and a plan to sell land that is part of a Utah national monument.

It was not clear which investigation had been referred to the Justice Department, but the action was taken more than two weeks ago, the person said.
