Market Snapshot: Dow up more than 400 points as stocks aim to end ugly October on an upbeat note

Stocks were on track to open higher Wednesday, potentially setting the stage to close out an ugly October on a positive note, as buying momentum followed through from Tuesday’s sharp gains.

Gains in Facebook in premarket action come after its quarterly report late Thursday and may be partly behind a shift in mood, but investors remained uncertain if any change in sentiment heralded a more permanent attitude adjustment.

How are benchmarks faring?

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average YMZ8, +0.96% were up 223 points, or 1.1%, at 25,082, while S&P 500 index futures ESZ8, +1.08% advanced 26.4 points to 2,711, a rise of 0.8%.
