Market Snapshot: Dow climbs over 200 points, but tech and internet-relate stocks sink Nasdaq

U.S. stocks logged a mixed performance during trading Monday, ahead of an updated policy statement from the Federal Reserve and midterm elections that could alter the balance of power in Washington.

How did benchmarks fare?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.76% rose 190.87 points to 25,461.70, a gain of 0.8%, and the S&P 500 SPX, +0.56% added 15.25 points, or 0.6%, to end at 2,738.31. The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.38% meanwhile, fell 28.14 points, or 0.4%, to 7,328.85.

Last week, both the Dow and the S&P 500 rose 2.4% and the Nasdaq advanced 2.7%, its first weekly gain since the end of September.
