The Margin: J.K. Rowling accuses ex-assistant of stealing $31,000 to spend on perfume, cats, Starbucks

Author J.K. Rowling is suing her former personal assistant, claiming she used her business credit card for unauthorized personal shopping sprees.

The “Harry Potter” creator is seeking £24,000 (about $31,000) in a British court from Amanda Donaldson, according to a report by the BBC. Donaldson worked for Rowling for about three years before being fired in April 2017. Donaldson denies the accusations.

Donaldson’s alleged spending included $1,200 on two cats, $1,900 on Jo Malone perfumes, $5,000 on Molton Brown skincare products and more than $2,000 at Starbucks. Rowling also claims Donaldson stole more than $3,000 in “Harry Potter” memorabilia and more than $10,000 in foreign cash from a safe.
