The Ratings Game: Amazon continues to be a threat but Best Buy is up to the challenge

Best Buy Co. Inc.’s better-than-expected third-quarter results show that even with the ongoing and indefatigable threat from Amazon.com Inc. in the consumer electronics space, Best Buy is up to the challenge.

Best Buy BBY, -2.27% reported adjusted earnings per share of 93 cents, revenue of $9.59 billion and same-store sales growth of 4.3%, all of which beat expectations.

And on the call, Chief Executive Hubert Joly talked up new initiatives, like GreatCall, a health service provider for aging customers that has been integrated into the mobile department, and Total Tech Support, a membership program that provides Geek Squad access.
