Market Snapshot: Stocks trade lower after Trump says ‘highly unlikely’ he would hold off on raising China tariffs

U.S. stock indexes on Tuesday were set to pull back, as remarks from President Donald Trump stoked fresh anxieties about the prospects of a near-term resolution of trade tensions between the U.S. and China.

How are benchmarks performing?

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average YMZ8, -0.39% were down 57 points, or 0.2%, at 24,540. S&P 500 index futures ESZ8, -0.42% were 7.65 points, or 0.3%, lower at 2,662, while Nasdaq-100 futures NQZ8, -0.62% were off 33.25 points at 6,641.75, a decline of 0.5%.

On Monday, the Dow DJIA, +1.46% climbed 354.29 points, or 1.5%, to 24,640.24, while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.55% rose 40.89 points, or 1.6%, to 2,673.45.
