The Margin: Toss out the white shoes, Goldman Sachs is going casual

Relax, dude.

That’s more or less the message that Goldman Sachs Group Inc. GS, +0.01% , traditionally a suit-and-tie workplace, sent to its employees in an email Tuesday that eases the investment bank’s dress code.

“We believe this is the right time to move to a firmwide flexible dress code,” read the letter, which Bloomberg News published.

Goldman was one of the few remaining holdouts from the casual-attire trend that has spread to workplaces across America in recent decades, though it did institute a more relaxed dress code among its tech division in 2017 — which still banned “short trousers” for men.
