Brexit Brief: MPs take control of Brexit process

In yet another humiliating defeat for U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May parliament seized control of the Brexit process on Monday night, forcing May to abandon her plan to hold a third “meaningful vote” on her preferred Brexit deal this week.

The amendment, which passed by 329 to 302, will allow U.K. lawmakers to hold a series of votes on alternatives to May’s twice-rejected Brexit deal, the very week the U.K. was scheduled to leave the European Union.

The so-called indicative votes, cautiously scheduled for Wednesday, would not be a legally binding agreement for the government but could provide a strong indication of what type of Brexit deal would be accepted by MPs.
