The New York Post: Betsy DeVos defends proposal to cut funding for Special Olympics

Betsy DeVos defended her proposed budgets cuts at the Department of Education on Monday — including slashing nearly $18 million to the Special Olympics, a report said.

The education secretary was speaking on Capitol Hill where she discussed a budget that spends $60 million on charter schools while cutting overall spending at the department by about 10%, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“We are not doing our children any favors when we borrow from their future in order to invest in systems and policies that are not yielding better results,” DeVos told a House subcommittee.

The longtime advocate for charter schools was grilled by Democrats including Connecticut Rep.
