The Wall Street Journal: Snapchat parent is getting into gaming, ratcheting up battle royale with ‘Fortnite’

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Snap Inc. is getting into gaming, joining other tech firms in a rush to attract users who are increasingly socializing in “Fortnite” and other multiplayer games that double as online communities.

The ephemeral-messaging company SNAP, +1.39% on Thursday said at its first partner summit here that its Snapchat app will now include multiplayer games. The company said its first original game will be called “Bitmoji Party,” and it plans to offer a series of other games developed by partners, including Zynga Inc. ZNGA, -1.38% and ZeptoLab Ltd. The move further blurs the lines between social networking and gaming.
