The Fed: Fed’s Brainard makes a subtle dig at Cain and Moore

Bloomberg News/Landov
Fed Governor Lael Brainard served as Treasury under secretary for international affairs during the Obama administration.

Federal Reserve Governor Lael Brainard on Thursday took a subtle swipe at Stephen Moore and Herman Cain, who are President Donald Trump’s presumed nominees for vacant seats on the central bank’s board.

Without mentioning either, Brainard said the Fed favors “fact-based intellectually coherent arguments that are based on evidence, that are consistent over time.”

That standard would remain “regardless of who sits around that table,” she added, in an interview with Bloomberg Television.

Although the president hasn’t officially nominated either Moore and Cain, he has said he would nominate both to the central bank.
