This new tool on Airbnb lets hosts donate to people in need of temporary housing

Airbnb is bringing hospitality to those in need.

The San Francisco-based home rental and travel site announced Thursday a new donations effort to let hosts give a portion of the money they make from renting their home out to organizations that help people in need of temporary housing and shelter. The program is available to hosts in the U.S., and will roll out later this year globally.

Hosts who want to give back can tell Airbnb the percentage they wish to donate — anywhere from 1% to 100% of earnings — and the company will send the funds to a nonprofit that helps find housing for those in need.
