Brexit Brief: Conservative Party slumps to fifth place in U.K. euro-election polls

Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party are fifth in voting intentions in the European Parliament elections taking place on May 23, behind the Brexit Party, the Liberal Democrats, Labour and the Greens, a YouGov poll released on May 20 reported.

The Conservatives are set to win only 8.3% of the vote, compared with veteran anti-EU campaigner Nigel Farage’s new Brexit Party on 33.4%, reflecting a trend across Europe where mainstream groups are being edged out by upstart euroskeptic and far-right parties.

Taken together, all major anti-Brexit parties, including the Liberal Democrats, the Greens, Change U.K. and the Scottish National Party, are polling at 37.5% of voting intentions, while the Brexit Party and the similar UK Independence Party are together on 36.1%.
