Brexit Brief: My party faces “extinction” if EU departure is delayed, says PM front-runner

Boris Johnson, the front-runner to be the U.K.’s next prime minister, has warned that the governing Conservative Party is at risk of an “existential crisis” if it is unable to deliver Brexit by the October 31 deadline

On Tuesday, Johnson warned a group of Conservative MPs in a private meeting held in parliament that the party is “facing an existential crisis and won’t be forgiven if we don’t deliver”, Bloomberg reported.

“There is a very real choice between getting Brexit done and the potential extinction of this great party,” he added.

At the same meeting Johnson argued he was “best placed to beat Jeremy Corbyn, excite people about conservatism and conservative values”.
