Brexit Brief: Frontrunner Johnson and “underdog” Hunt face off to succeed May as PM

The Conservative leadership contest is entering its final phase as Boris Johnson, former foreign secretary and favorite to win, faces off against Jeremy Hunt, the current foreign secretary and self-professed “underdog”.

Ahead of the victor being decided in late July, both will now set out their pitch for being the right individual to guide the U.K. through its exit from the European Union.

Sajid Javid, the home secretary, was eliminated from the race during the fourth round of voting on June 20. Javid is now seen as a contender to become the next chancellor for the eventual next prime minister, the Financial Times reported.
